The purpose of SOLAR (Student Organization Learning And Resources) is to give campus leaders the information to successfully transition into leadership position as well as cover university policies and best practices as they relate to continually engaging the campus and students at Eastern Michigan.
“Putting on this series of seminars to establish sustainable and effective groups was the most important aspect of SOLAR.” Robin Chaustowich said, Campus Life’s Program Coordinator for Student Organization. “It was really exciting to get everyone together in the summer to get on track for the academic year.” Robin, along with students in Campus Life and Student Government coordinated the series of talks.
Sessions were held during breakout time to cover a wide array of skills to get more out of their organization and the university. Topics included advertising & promotions for events, all things money, event planning, leadership & management styles, membership, recruitment, philanthropy and community service to provide a well rounded structure for students to learn and model their organizations from. The summer seminar was just the starting point of the latest ongoing series of enhancements that will be held each month.
The Fall SOLAR series will take place the first Wednesday of each month beginning at 5pm in room 302 of the Student Center. The seminars are free and open without registration to all student organization members. For the most up to date information about SOLAR please visit emich.edu/studentgov.
